The evidence suggests he committed five murders. So where did the rest of the story come from?

In the early 1900s, a Paiute man named Queho was accused of murder in the canyons and mining camps of southern Nevada. Posses hunted him for decades. Newspapers called him a monster. The legend grew until he was blamed for twenty-five killings across the Mojave Desert.

The evidence suggests he committed five murders. So where did the rest of the story come from?

Weird Tales 7: The Strange Case of Queho is a one-hour documentary investigation into one of Nevada’s most enduring and most misunderstood legends. Hosted by Ted Faye and featuring Nevada’s foremost historians, archival detectives, and desert explorers, the film follows the evidence through archives, across the landscape, and all the way to the cave where the story was supposed to end.

It turns out the legend tells us more about Nevada than it does about the man.

Weird Tales is a documentary series that explores the stranger side of the desert Southwest—going looking for the stories everyone knows and nobody has fully investigated. Each episode follows host and filmmaker Ted Faye as he assembles a team of historians, explorers, researchers, and local experts to chase one of the region’s most compelling unsolved mysteries—sifting through archives, venturing into the desert, and separating a century of legend from the facts underneath. Part history, part detective story, part desert adventure, Weird Tales treats its audience as intelligent people who can handle a mystery that doesn’t resolve neatly. Because the best stories rarely do.

Ted Faye

Ted Faye is a Las Vegas-based filmmaker whose Weird Tales documentary series has built a devoted following by doing what most history programming won’t: following the evidence wherever it leads and being honest about what it doesn’t prove. Ted approaches each episode as an investigator rather than a narrator—assembling experts, going into the field, and letting the audience experience the search alongside him. The Strange Case of Queho is his most ambitious episode yet.

04 / The screenings

The world premiere arrives in Shoshone on opening night.

Check in at the museum at 6:00pm (118 CA-127), then go legend-spotting: Ted Faye, Wonderhussy, Mark “The Beard of Knowledge” Hall-Patton, and a handful of local characters will be roaming the exhibits and the grounds outside, trading tales with the curious. Nibble light desert provisions, let the faux paparazzi have their moment with you on the red carpet, then follow the music three doors south to the Flower Building for popcorn, candy, and the premiere.

After the film, coffee and dessert carry everyone into the Q&A with Ted Faye, and the evening drifts off into the desert night by 10:00pm. Tickets are free; donations are appreciated, with $20 suggested per ticket. All proceeds go to SIFPD. Reservations are strongly encouraged; last-minute tickets will be available online and at the door.

The film returns Saturday night from 6:30pm–8:00pm inside the Flower Building in Shoshone as part of the free Saturday program. No reservations needed: just wander in.
